My earliest childhood memory involves helping my father in his business and I have been hooked ever since. I love how business works, in particular how all the seemingly endless variables come together to make a business that is profitable. I am fascinated by what makes one business profitable and successful and another not so.

In many ways I am lucky as I now get to spend my days working with and helping Small Business Owners maximise their business’ potential. I am a Chartered Accountant and Small Business Owner. I am married and live in Maidstone, Kent.

Some of my highlights

Most small businesses fail or fail to achieve their potential and the reasons for this are long and varied but a big part of it is that these businesses aren’t organised. Being organised in every part of your business maximises your chance of success. I have worked with 100’s of businesses in many different industries and I have seen the things that make the difference between those businesses that make it and those that don’t.

Those business owners that are successful do the same things as each other in order to create a business that works, one which gives consistent results and that contributes positively to their lives. I wrote the book to share with your the techniques I have learned, developed and implemented from working with these business so you can learn what you need to do make the difference in your business.

Some of the characteristics of an organised business:

  • The business runs like clockwork
  • Documented systems and processes are in place and ensure consistency
  • The business is not over reliant on anyone especially the owner
  • The owners spends more time working on the business than in it
  • The business contributes positively to the owners life

If you do not recognise these characteristics then you will benefit from the concepts outlined in the book.

A key theme in The Organised Business is Systems. What I mean by systems are the processes, checklists and standard documents you have in your business. I passionately believe that documented systems are the key to a successful business. If you are dedicated to systemising (the process of writing systems for your business) then you are also looking to find the best way of doing things and this fact makes the difference.

In addition systems allow you to delegate work in the confidence that your employees have a process to follow, this ensures that work is completed in the same way each and every time. This has several effects including that it allows you to remove yourself from the business, to scale it and it increases its value.

For this reason I am passionate about systems as they make a massive difference to any business.

In many ways I have the best day job because I get to work in and for so many different types of businesses. Whilst working with these businesses I get to see what works and what doesn’t work and over the last 10 years I have learnt so much.

During this time I have tried not to be just an ordinary accountant and have really rolled my sleeves up and got involved with my clients. I have developed and implemented countless solutions to real problems my clients face. Unfortunately, I can only reach out to so many clients on a one to one basis and this is one of the reasons I wrote the Organised Business. The book allows me to share, with a wider audience, some of the things that I have seen make a difference in real businesses.

One of the most exciting things about the book is the added value of the The Organised Business members only website I have created where, as a book reader, you get access to the tools and resources I have developed for use inm your business. The tools are the direct results to issues I have identified over the years and are yours for FREE from the members site.

To relax I enjoy spending time with my family, doing 5 & 10K runs and snowboarding. I am a great believer in not working weekends – my philosophy is that business should be able to be done Monday – Friday. Of course this isn’t always possible but having an organised business helps makes this happen more often than not.
